People who work in cold environments are at risk of cold
stress, also known as hypothermia. Hypothermia means
literally, low heat. It refers to the heath hazards associated
with dangerously low internal body temperature.
Hypothermia occurs when too much body heat is
lost, and the body's internal temperature control
mechanisms cannot adequately re-warm the body.
An individual is at risk of hypothermia when he or she
starts feeling uncomfortably cold and begins shivering.
Hands and feet become especially uncomfortable as the
body temperature decreases blood flow to the hands and
fingers, joints stiffen and the sense of feeling decreases,
diminishing manual dexterity and making walking difficult.
Delf manufactures and supply all types of clothing from
jackets salopettes and coveralls. There is also an
extensive range of gloves, hats and footwear to suit all.
The G01 leather glove tested to EN511 is light in weight
with reinforced fingers and palms and gives good finger dexterity.
The F02 and F06 cold store boots are both tested to -30°C, with the F06 having non-metallic toe-cap and mid-sole for a
lighter feel.
Wearing adequate insulated, properly fitted clothing, gloves and footwear is a primary defence against the cold stress.
